Why
Why?
Jogos Florais [Floralia], unlike in Ancient Rome, will not praise the goddess Flora, nor crown courtesans with flowers. Jogos Florais is a site for literary criticism and poetry of many different nationalities, shapes and sizes. The start of this site can be traced back to a lunch, and from the "what if?" this idea grew through countless dinners to become what is here presented. Ana Maria Pereirinha, Joana Meirim, Madalena Alfaia, Maria Sequeira Mendes and Sara Carvalho, with Alice Geirinhas as the illustrator, are the engineers of this independent project, which relies on the generosity of many people whom we sincerely thank for their texts, poems, translations, readings and suggestions.
In “new poems” we read recent works (from 2001 onwards), and in “old poems” we retrieve lines that have been forgotten. There are sections of unpublished poems, translations, gems, interviews, and marginalia, in which literary curiosities will be shared. Expect an updated site every month, and you can follow this progress on facebook. Use this address (floraisjogosatgmail.com) to contact us and to suggest new poems and readings to be featured on the website, which will be published pending approval.
Welcome to Jogos Florais.
